Gowrie John F. Lizer 92, passed away Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at Friendship Haven, Fort Dodge. Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 13, 2019 at the United Methodist Church, Gowrie, with Pastor Susan Rohden and Pastor Jim Davis officiating. Burial will be at Gowrie Township Cemetery. Visitation will be after 4:00 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, at the United Methodist Church, Gowrie. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family. Palmer Funeral Home, Gowrie is in charge of arrangements. John is survived by his sons, John M. (Alyce) Lizer of Fort Dodge, and Joel (Sheilah) Lizer of Des Moines; his daughter Mary (Jeff) Patterson of Lohrville; grandchildren, Tyler, Lindsey (Eric), Jennifer (Adam), Jade (Tyler), Joelle, and Jay (Lexi); great-grandchildren, Addison, Ava, Brentley, Dakota, Aubree, Esley, and Ella; and sister Marjorie Burkgren of Ames; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife LaVola; daughter Kathy Lizer; his parents, Zeb and Blanche (Teeples) Lizer; and infant brother Richard. John F. Lizer was born June 14, 1927 at Fort Dodge, Iowa. He graduated from Gowrie High School, with the Class of 1945. On March 4, 1950 he was united in marriage to LaVola Lawson at Gowrie. John worked and operated the family business, Lizer Livestock Auction in Gowrie since 1933. LaVola passed away in 2016. John was a member of the United Methodist Church, and a director at First Bank, Gowrie.
