Rockwell City – John “Jack” W. DeBolt Jr. 77, passed away Sunday, May 19, 2024 at Accura HealthCare of Pomeroy. Memorial Services will be 10:30 AM Thursday, May 30, 2024 (PLEASE NOTE THE DATE) at the Spirit of Hope Church, formerly the United Methodist Church, Rockwell City, with Pastor Denise Berns officiating. Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 PM Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at Laufersweiler’s Palmer & Swank Funeral Home, Rockwell City. Burial will be at Rosehill Cemetery, Rockwell City, with Military Graveside Rites conducted by AMVETS Post #41 of Rockwell City and the United States Marine Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
Jack is survived by his wife Bonnie; son Ronald DeBolt and his fiancé Missy Sartell of Des Moines; sisters, Joyce (Ray) Stewart of Sauk Rapids, MN, Carolyn Becker of Pomeroy, Bonnie McPherson of Eleanor, WV, Beverly (Larry) Sorenson of Sauk Centre, MN, Wanda (Wayne) Hendrichs of Early, and Kathy DeBolt of Carroll; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, John W. and Edith Maxine (Michael) DeBolt; and sister Jeannine Howard.
John William DeBolt Jr. was born September 15, 1946 at Lake City, Iowa. He graduated from Rockwell City High School, with the Class of 1964. Jack went to AIB for one year and then served in the United States Marine Corps for four years during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1970, attaining the rank of Sergeant. He married his high school sweetheart, Bonnie Lindsey on July 3, 1966 at the United Methodist Church in Rockwell City and then left for Vietnam. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Rockwell City and the couple made their home there. He worked at the family tiling business and ended up buying it from his dad. Jack later worked as a rural mail carrier for 33 years. He was a member of the former United Methodist Church, AMVETS Post 41, American Legion, VFW, Rural Mail Carriers Association, past fair board member and the Kountry Kickers Dance Club. He will always be remembered for riding his bike all over town and helping people. He enjoyed going to NASCAR races and always wanted to be called Jack.
