John Joseph Mcdonald

John J. McDonald, 85, of Fort Dodge passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2013 at the Marion Home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel of Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating. Burial will be at a later date in St. John's Cemetery in Emmetsburg. Visitation will be on Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home and on Saturday from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the services at the funeral home. John is survived by his longtime companion and friend Irma McMahon of Fort Dodge; sons, John (Cassie) McDonald of Des Moines and Patrick McDonald of Chicago; daughter, Sharon (Dave) Wilson of Bella Vista, AR; 7 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Mary (Tom) Trusty of Ankeny. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Veronica (Ruddy) McDonald; son, Tim McDonald; and sister, Catherine Engler. John J. McDonald was born February 26, 1929 in Emmetsburg, IA. He attended Corpus Christi High School in Fort Dodge and graduated in 1947. He then continued his education at a junior college and also completed a year at the University of Iowa. John was stationed on the U.S.S. Missouri Battle Ship in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War from January of 1951 until October of 1954. In 1959, he moved back to Fort Dodge and joined his father in the family business called McDonald's Motors. John later worked in sales at Levien Chevrolet which later became Krantz Chevrolet. He worked there for 20 years before he retired in 1992. John was a member of the Holy Trinity Church. Memorials may be left in discretion to the family.
