John J. Mersch, 98, of Fort Dodge passed away on Monday, August 31, 2020 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home. A time for friends to visit will be TUESDAY September 1st from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Laufersweiler Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, September 2, 2020 at Corpus Christi Church with a visitation starting at 9:30 AM at the church. Burial will follow at Corpus Christi Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Marcy Mersch of Fort Dodge; children, Larry (Linda) Mersch of Fort Dodge, Valerie (Rick) Graves, of Bella Vista, AR, Tommy (Brenda) Mersch of Humboldt, Johnny (Debbie) Mersch Jr. of Fort Dodge, Gary (Darci) Mersch of Clare; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 8 brothers, 2 sisters and son, Timmy Mersch. John Joseph Mersch was born August 1, 1922. He was baptized and received his First Communion at St. Peter and Paul's Catholic Church in West Bend where he was also an altar server. He moved to Eagle Grove with his family and finished high school in 1939. He then went on to attend 2 years of junior college. On August 18, 1948 he was united in marriage to Marcella Crawford at Corpus Christi Church in Fort Dodge. They were blessed with 5 sons and 1 daughter. The couple enjoyed 72 years of marriage. John and Marcy built a successful farming operation that the entire family has enjoyed for years. He enjoyed traveling and has visited 60 countries and many islands with his wife, family members, and friends. He loved spending time at Okoboji over the July 4th holiday. He relished participating in his potluck group and card club. The most important things in his life were faith, family, friends, and farming. Memorials may be left to family discretion.
