John Norman Mundie

John "Norman" Mundie, 84, of Fort Dodge passed away Thursday, December 12, 2013 at the Paul J. Baber Hospice Home. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 16th in the Chapel of the Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home and 10:30 a.m. at Corpus Christi Church with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will follow at St. Francis Cemetery in Rockwell City with Military Rites conducted by the Rockwell City Veterans Association. A visitation will be Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with a Vigil at 5:00 p.m. all at the funeral home. Norman is survived by his sons, Bart Mundie of Irving, TX; Brian Mundie and his wife Lauri of Fort Dodge; Curtis Mundie and his wife Carol of Houston, TX; Keith Mundie of Irving, TX; daughters, Marcia Quinnell and her husband Bruce of Frisco, TX; Dawn Mickelson and her husband Cliff of Duncombe; Lori Lewis and her husband Ron of Carrollton, TX; 9 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and 1 great great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ruby (Potts) Mundie; wife, Faye; and brother, Howard Mundie, infant granddaughter, Melodie, and an infant grandson, Jared. Norman Mundie was born on January 25, 1929 in Rockwell City. He was raised and educated in Rockwell City and graduated from Rockwell City High School. Norman served with the National Guard from 1948 to 1952. He was then united in marriage to Faye Stumpf on April 19, 1952 in Rockwell City. The couple established their home and farmed in the Rockwell City area until 1959. They then moved to Jefferson, IA where they farmed until 1962. Norman and Faye then moved and established their home in Fort Dodge, where they farmed until 1992, when Norm retired. Norm served as Webster County Supervisor and was later elected to the House of Representatives for the Democratic Party, serving from 1993 through 2001. Norman was a member of the Webster County 133rd Air Craft and Warning Squad, Iowa National Guard, and the Cardinal Flying Club. He has served on the Webster County Fair Board, New Coop Board, a past member of the Fort Dodge Jaycee's, a member of the Farm Bureau, served as the president for the Parkview Retirement Homes in Otho, and was a member of Holy Trinity Parish. Norm had lived at Friendship Haven for the last few years. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
