John Reynold Nordstrom

John R. Nordstrom, 58, of Fort Dodge passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, Des Moines. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 15, 2014 in the Chapel of Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home and 10:30 a.m. a Mass of Christian Burial will be at Corpus Christi Church, with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating. Burial will follow at Corpus Christi Cemetery. A visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with a vigil at 7:00 p.m. John is survived by his wife, Maureen; children, Lisa (Bryan) Odendahl of Osceola; Donnie Nordstrom; Greg Nordstrom both of Fort Dodge; grandchildren, Sam, Zac, and Liz; parents, Don and Earlene Nordstrom; sisters, Annette (Tim) McClintock; Sherry (Kyle) Ruge all of Fort Dodge; sisters-in-law, Mary Ellen Murphy of Duncombe; Margaret Pilgrim of New York; Maxine (Darrel) Merk of North Carolina; brothers-in-law, John (Connie) Ascherl of Texas; Mick (Jeannie) Ascherl of Nebraska; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ray and Evelyn Nordstrom and John and Evelyn Schuller; brothers-in-law, Jim Murphy; Ron Pilgrim; Jerry (Mary Ann) Ascherl; In-laws, John and Edythe Ascherl; infant child and grandson, Mattie Odendahl. John was born July 1, 1955 in Fort Dodge. Since the age of 5, John was a drummer. John played in the Dixie Land Kings at 14 years old and for the Ralph Drollinger Band along with various other bands. He graduated Fort Dodge Senior High School in 1973, where he was drum major and played in the jazz band. He attended Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge before enrolling at the University of Iowa. While attending Iowa, John was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity. John was united in marriage to Maureen Ascherl on July 18, 1981 at St. Joseph's Church in Duncombe and the couple established their home in Fort Dodge. John was employed with Sound World and Carpet World. John had a passion for music and loved spending time with his family. He would dine with his Dad daily. John would do anything for his family. He was an avid Hawkeye Fan for every sport and John had to have his Diet Pepsi from The Station. He had a great fondness for Okoboji, where John was an avid water skier. The family encourages everyone to wear Hawkeye black and gold to the visitation. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family. Go Hawks!
