John C. "Silky" Thoma, 71, of Fort Dodge, son of Cletus William Thoma and Gertrude (Fecteau) Thoma died December 24, 2017 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:30 PM on Friday, December 29th at Corpus Christi Church with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Barnum. A visitation will be on Thursday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, with a Vigil Prayer Service at 7:00 PM all at Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home. John is survived by his wife, Sue of Fort Dodge; sons, Mike (Joy) Thoma of Clare and Mark Thoma of Ankeny; 4 grandchildren; 1 great-granddaughter; 2 step-grandchildren; brothers, Bill of Fort Dodge, Chris of Fort Dodge, Randy of Barnum, Todd of FL, Joe of Riceville; and sister, Jean of Omaha. He was preceded in death by his parents; nephews, Richard and Shyler Thoma; and great grandson, Parker Thoma. John Cletus Thoma was born December 14, 1946 at his home in Gilmore City. John married Sue Krebs in Manson on April 29, 1967 and to this union, had two sons. Over the years, John worked as a butcher, Webster County road maintenance employee and was a Fort Dodge fireman for 32 years. He also farmed for his aunt and uncle for over 50 years. John enjoyed his morning coffee and cards with friends and fellow co-workers and fishing at the lake. In lieu of flowers memorials may be left to Hospice of Fort Dodge.
