John W Cross

John W. Cross, 82, of Fort Dodge, passed away on Thursday, March 5th, 2015, at Trinity Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 9th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Rev. Allen Henderson, officiating. Burial will be in Lidderdale Lutheran Cemetery at Lidderdale, IA; with military honors conducted by the Carroll American Legion Post # 7 and the U.S. Army Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday at Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home. Survivors include his wife, Marnette; sons, Paul W. Cross of Pekin, IL; James "Jamie" H. Cross and his wife Kris McEvoy of West Des Moines; David "Dave" J. Cross and wife Christine of Scottsdale, AZ; grandchildren, James and Will Cross; Liv, Sam, and Charlie Cross; Linnea and Jackson Cross. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim B. and Gladys (Bird) Cross; brother, James E. Cross; and his sister, Edith McDonald. John William Cross was born on September 17, 1932 in Fort Dodge. He was raised and educated here graduating from Fort Dodge Senior High School in 1951, and later graduated from the University of Iowa in 1954 with his Bachelor of Science Degree. John served in the U.S. Army Signal Corp stationed in Okinawa, Japan, from May of 1954 until his honorable discharge in May of 1956. On September 1, 1963, he was united in marriage to Marnette Herrmann at St. Paul Lutheran Church. The couple established their home in Fort Dodge. He worked for Cross Loan, Bookkeeping, and Tax Service, Hawkeye Mutual Hail and the State of Iowa until retiring in 1994. After retiring, he enjoyed working part time as a clerk at the Wal-Mart pharmacy. John was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
