Johnnie Crooks Sr., 91, of Fort Dodge, passed away Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Tompkins Memorial Health Center. Funeral services will be held 1:30 PM Friday April 12, 2013 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with Rev. Marvin Jenkins officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. There will be a visitation from 4:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home. Johnnie is survived by his sons, Johnny Crooks Jr. and Jimmy Crooks both of Fort Dodge; daughters, Marilyn (Linn) Hameed of Chicago, IL; Bernice (Chester) Pepper of Duluth, MN; Christine Crooks of Milwaukee, WI; Cintrenell Cox; Bernice (Larry) Wirtz; Barbara (Dedric) Crooks; and Chriss (Carlos) Rocha all of Fort Dodge; and a host of grandkids, great grandkids, nieces and nephews. Johnnie is preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Christina (Dates) Crooks; wife, Ina Jean; son, Joe; daughter, Julienne Davis; brother, Oscar Jr.; sisters, Addie Cherry; Caldonia Jones; Pearlie Mae Shields; Marjorie Penn; grandsons, Christopher Crooks; Colby Pettigrew-Crooks; and a granddaughter, Angel Hameed. Johnnie Crooks was born January 4, 1922 in Birmingham, Alabama. He attended school in the Birmingham area. Following his education he moved to Waterloo, IA. He became employed with Rous Meat Packing Company until the mid 1940's, when he moved to the Fort Dodge area and began working for Kalo Brick-N-Tile. On February 7, 1965 he was united in marriage to Ina Jean Cox and the couple established their home in Fort Dodge. Johnnie later worked at Tobin Packing House, which became Hormel, retiring in 1982. He continued working part-time with D.A.R.T. Bus and was a janitor at Urban Ministry for a number of years. He also was "security", with his best friend Keizer (his Doberman), at Brownie's Caf
