DUNCOMBE- JOSEPH EMMETT LENNON, age 89, passed away in his home on Friday morning, January 2nd, 2015 with family by his side. A Celebration of Joey's life will be held on Tuesday, January 6th at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of the Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home and 10:30 a.m. at Corpus Christi Church with Rev. Clem Currans officiating the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Vigil at 7:00 p.m. all at the funeral home. He is survived by his children, Larry Lennon (Jo Ann) of Duncombe; Sharon Mitchell (David) of Duncombe, and Donna Schneider (Bill) of Gowrie; sisters, Mary Mackenburg of Hemphill, Texas; Barbara "Peggy" Harvey of Dayton; Teresa Garman (Merle) of Ames; 15 grandchildren, Karen Hayes (Josh), Patrick Lennon, Stacy Lennon, Joseph Lennon, Thomas Lennon, Jolene Messerly (Brad), Kelsie Mitchell, Lauren Mitchell, Matthew Mitchell, Nolan Mitchell, Olivia Mitchell, Claire Kutz (Kyle), Jake Schneider, Paige Schneider, and Zoe Schneider; 5 great grandchildren, Emma Hayes, Allison Hayes, Brady Messerly, Gina Kutz, and Ebby Kutz; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Elizabeth; brother, Tommy Lennon; and sisters, Irene Lennon and Frances Rhoads. Joey was born to John "Clem" and Barbara (Korsa) Lennon on October 13, 1925 in Clare, Iowa. He and his 6 siblings grew up on a farm near Clare and attended St. Matthew's School. On February 15th, 1958 he was united in marriage with Elizabeth Ekstrom at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Duncombe. They lived on a farm near Evanston, Iowa where they raised 3 children. Joe farmed, shelled corn, baled hay, and raised livestock. He enjoyed harness horse racing, visiting with family and friends, and sharing his personality. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
