Joseph "Joe" Lewis

Joseph Dean Lewis, 72, of Fort Dodge, passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held be held on Monday, April 8th at 10:00 AM at Laufersweiler Funeral Home. Burial will follow at North Lawn Cemetery with military rites conducted by the V.F.W. Post 1856 and the U.S. Army Honor Guard. A visitation will be held on Sunday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years Ardis of Fort Dodge, son Chad Eastwood and his wife Angela of Fort Dodge, son Justin Lewis and his wife Julie of Manson, Carrie Lewis and her fiancé Jake Nelson of Fort Dodge, grandchildren Brandyn, Nathan, Coletyn, Devyn, Dawson, Macey, Hailey, Aubrey, Lexey, Cassie, Kendra, Joshua, Katelyn, Kaylee, Ella, Zach and Brad, great grandchildren Ayvah, Kyla, Mila, Tove, Franklyn, Winry and Ulysses, brothers John (Deb) Lewis of Fort Dodge, Rick Lewis of Temple, TX, sisters Diane (Jim) Hunter of Gowrie, Eileen Dodgen of Fort Dodge and Kathy (Leon) Streit of Gowrie.

He was preceded in death by his parents Dale and Margaret (Buscherfeld) Lewis, brother Bruce (Margaret) Lewis and brother-in-law Dan Dodgen.

Joseph Dean Lewis was born on April 30, 1951, in Fort Dodge. He was raised and educated here and graduated from St. Edmond High School in 1970. That same year he joined the U.S. Army serving during Vietnam until 1972. Joe continued to serve his country in the Reserves until 1976. On June 13, 1975, he was united in marriage to Ardis Billings and the couple made their home in Fort Dodge. Joe went to work at Air Gas, Hove Trucking, SMX Smithway Motor Express and later retired from Fort Dodge Asphalt after 13 years of service. Joe loved his family always tried to make sure they came first in his life. He was an avid bowler, enjoyed fishing, and was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan. Joe was a past member of the Evening Lions Club.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
