Joyce Goforth, 98, of Callender, passed away at her home on the morning of Saturday, April 5, 2025.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 9th at 11:30 AM at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Callender. Burial will follow at North Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday starting at 10:00 AM at the church in Callender.
Laufersweiler Palmer Funeral Home in Gowrie is serving the family.
Joyce Bernece Skoglund, daughter of Bert and Bernice (Rydman) Skoglund of Dayton, Iowa, was born July 31, 1926, at home. She was raised and educated in Dayton, graduating from Dayton High School in 1944. Following school she worked in the offices of several Fort Dodge businesses, including Leighton Supply, Tobin Packing, and at Lutheran Hospital. On August 24, 1947 she married D. L. Goforth at Zion Lutheran Church, Gowrie. They made their home in Fort Dodge, later moving to Callender, where she was a teachers aide at Prairie Community school for 20 years. She was active with the local church, Our Saviour's Lutheran, serving on many committees. She had enjoyed playing the organ, crossword puzzles, birdwatching, playing cards, and baseball games on TV. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband D. L. in 1993; brothers Richard and Leon "Rusty" Skoglund; and son-in-law Denny Pierce. She is survived by son Randall (Gloria Olson) Goforth of Des Moines; daughter Terry Pierce of Fort Dodge; son James of Callender; and grandson Jayson Goforth of Des Moines.
