Joyce L. Messerly, 68, of Fort Dodge passed away Sunday, September 3, 2017 at the Villa Care Center after a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Thursday, September 7, 2017 at Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home. A visitation will be Wednesday, September 6, 2017 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Joyce is survived by her husband, James Messerly; sister, Judie (Bob) Wilson of Eagle Grove; brothers, Galen (Sheryl) Jorgensen of Ware; Gary (Pat) Jorgensen of Moorland; brother-in-law, Wilbert (Nancy) Messerly of Fort Dodge; sisters-in-law, Cynthia Timm of Webster City; Mary Johnson of Longville, MN; and Amilia Schweertman of Stanhope; several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Florence (Rasmussen) Jorgensen; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Eugene and Mary Messerly; brothers-in-law, Elvin Johnson Sr; Lloyd Timm Sr; Herman Schweertman; Richard McCormick; nephew, Willy Messerly Jr. Joyce L. Jorgensen was born April 3, 1949 in Fort Dodge. She attended schools in Goldfield. She married James W. Messerly on February 22, 1970. The couple made their home in Fort Dodge. Joyce was employed at Sylvia's Restaurant and then Globe Union until they closed. She then worked at Beam in Webster City and then Wal-Mart until her retirement. She was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 1856 of Fort Dodge. She loved camping and fishing her husband and family. Memorials may be left to family discretion.
