Kenneth C. Buhl

Rockwell City Kenneth C. Buhl 72, passed away Sunday, September 1, 2019 at his home following a lengthy illness. His wishes were to be cremated. Memorial Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, 2019 at the Northfield Church of Christ, 2933 N. 15th St., Fort Dodge, with Pastor Dale Harlow officiating. Graveside Services will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Rosehill Cemetery, Rockwell City, with Military Graveside Rites conducted by the Rockwell City Veterans Organization. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to Shiloh Christian Childrens Ranch, Shelbina, Missouri. He had a heart for children who had no one to love them. Palmer & Swank Funeral Home, Rockwell City is serving the family. Kenneth is survived by his wife Sandra; children, Nicole (Jonathan) McChesney of Somers, Shella (Brandon) Johnson of Iowa City, and Troy Buhl of Wichita, KS; 6 grandchildren, Anna, Ellie, Morgan, Avery, Lena, and Danielle; sisters, Sandra Baxter of Emmetsburg, Judy Bart of Mesa, AZ, and Lesa Anthony of Mesa, AZ; mother-in-law, Jane Peters of Emmetsburg; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandson Oliver Johnson; his parents, Clarence and Cleo (Sawyer) Buhl; and sister Virginia Crawford. Kenneth Clarence Buhl was born August 2, 1947 at Curlew, Iowa. He graduated from Albert City High School with the Class of 1965 and Mankato State College in 1970. In 1971, Ken served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War where he graduated from Officer Candidate School and was honorably discharged in 1973, attaining the rank of First Lieutenant. On June 22, 1969 he was united in marriage to Sandra Peters at Mallard, Iowa. In 1979, the couple established their home in Rockwell City where they owned and operated the Lunch Box. Ken retired from the North Central Correctional Facility, Rockwell City in 2010. His hobbies included sending flowers to the love of his life; bragging about his children and sons-in-law; and delighting in his grandchildren. He was a member of the Church family that he loved at Northfield Church of Christ, Fort Dodge. His humility, integrity, and compassion left an impact on the lives of many. Kens final concerns, as always, were for his family, and his final prayers included a desire for others to know the Lord.
