Kenneth P. Selander, 92, of Fort Dodge passed away Friday, September 24, 2021 at Trinity Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at the Celebration Center, Friendship Haven. Burial will follow the luncheon at Lost Grove Cemetery near Harcourt with military rites being provided by American Legion Peterson Post #431 of Gowrie. A visitation will begin at 9:30 until the start of the service at the Celebration Center. Family requests that masks be worn. Laufersweiler Funeral home is serving the family. Kenneth is survived by his wife, Barbara Selander of Fort Dodge, children, Linda Selander of Kansas City, KS, Donna (Randy) Sennert of Storm Lake, Deanna (Bill) Hepp of Farnhamville; 8 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Clarice Lundberg of Dayton and Marvel Peters of Des Moines. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Myrtle (Mars) Selander and a sister, Iola Block. Kenneth Paul Selander was born April 17, 1929 on a farm in Lost Grove Township between Gowrie and Harcourt. He was baptized by his grandfather, Rev S. E. Selander in the farm home. He was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, Gowrie in 1944. In 1946, he graduated from Harcourt High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served from 1951 to 1953 during the Korean Conflict. After his Honorable discharge, he attended the Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis where he met the love of his life Barbara. On August 28, 1955 he was united in marriage to Barbara Becker in Omaha, NE. The couple made their home on a farm near Gowrie. In 1994, they moved to Fort Dodge and farmed until their retirement in 1997. Kenneth worked for Sears for a number of years and also worked for Plywood Minnesota, Later known as the Floor to Ceiling Store for 10 years. The couple moved to Friendship Haven in 2006. Kenneth was a member of Saint Paul Lutheran Church. He served as a Sunday School teacher, Superintendent of the Church Council as well as on various other committees. He was a township trustee and President of the Resident's Council at Friendship Haven. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to family discretion.
