Somers - Larry Rae Erritt, 80, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 25, 2024.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, January 3rd in the Chapel of the Laufersweiler Palmer Swank Funeral Home in Rockwell City. Burial will follow at Greenfield Township Cemetery, Knierim with Military Rites conducted by the American Legion Post 510 of Farnhamville. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home

Larry was born on November 14, 1944 in Fort Dodge, IA to Marvin "Hap" and Margaret Erritt. He was raised and educated in Cedar Valley Somers area. He graduated from Cedar Valley High School. Following his education, Larry joined the Iowa National Guard and served for 6 years with his two friends, Danny Goodwin and John Erritt. Larry was a longtime member of the honor guard American Legion Post 510 of Farnhamville that helped with many Military Honors for deceased veterans. He was lifelong member of the United Methodist Church out of Somers, IA.

Larry was employed for nearly 30 years at Central Lab as the lead department manager of the shipping department. He also farmed for 15 years after his father "Hap" retired. Larry was a true patriot and was extremely devoted to his country. Larry would always celebrate the 4th of July with a special gathering for friends and family. He was a fan of the Green Bay Packers, Iowa Hawkeyes, and Kansas City Chiefs. Larry had a soft spot for animals often taking them in, helping them in their time of need and helping area farmers with their livestock. Larry also aided area farmers by hauling grain. One of Larry's favorite spots was at his parents lake home.

Larry is survived by his sister Deborah (Steve) Lyon of Redwood Falls, MN, nephews Nathaniel (Tabitha) Lyon of Hampton, MN, and Christopher (Tracci) Lyon of Redwood Falls, MN, 3 great nieces Brooklyn, Albany, and Liberty, and a great nephew Ethan. He was preceded by his parents a great nephew Emerson Lyon. Larry will be best remembered for his spicy personality and his love for his country.
