Laura Belle Fulton

Laura B. Fulton, 103, of Fort Dodge, passed away on Thursday, November 14, 2013 at her home. Laura's wishes were to be cremated. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at 10:30 A.M at Corpus Christi Church with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating. Burial will follow at Corpus Christi Cemetery. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. The Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home is serving the family. Besides being survived by her many nieces and nephews, Laura will also be deeply missed by her dear friends and caregivers; LuAnn (Al) Schuster, Linda Roe, Carmen Crimmins, Sara Murphy, Melissa Smits, Shanette Poldervaart, Wendy Roberts, and Mary Keen. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Mary (Baumann) Womacks; husband, James F. (Doc) Fulton; one brother and four sisters. Laura was born in Huron, South Dakota on November 6, 1910. She graduated from Huron High School in 1928 and then she attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Remaining in Iowa, Laura moved to Fort Dodge in 1935. She began employment in the Webster County Relief Office as a secretary in 1954. Laura then was appointed Assistant Director and later became the Director of the Webster County Relief Office. While in the office, Mrs. Fulton served as liaison coordinator for Webster County and she also served on the Board of Directors of the Development Learning Center from its inception. Having held every office with the Iowa State Relief Directors Association; Laura served on the Board of Directors of the Iowa State Association of Counties for two years. Also she completed three years on the Legislative Task Force for Mental Health and related programs. She retired in June of 1980. Prior to employment in the relief office, Laura worked several years for Sperry Cleaners, Clerk of Courts of Webster County, the Chamber of Commerce, Fort Dodge Labs, and the Iowa Liquor Control Commission. Laura was a member for many years in the Fort Dodge Employees Credit Union and was a board member on the former Webster County Welfare Association United Way. She belonged to the Webster County Association for the Mentally Handicapped, C.C. Ladies Guild, and was a former member of Wa-Jan-Ye. After her retirement, she was a volunteer for and served on the Care Review Committee at Friendship Haven. She also was a member of the Webster County Retirees group. Laura married James F. (Doc) Fulton in November of 1944. They established their home in Savage Addition in 1953. After her husband's death in 1990, Laura remained in her home where she cared for her yard and flowers. She was also an avid bird watcher. She loved all these, but most of all, she loved people. Memorials may be left to the Fort Dodge Catholic School System and Hospice.
