Laverne Dass

LaVerne D. Dass, 89, from Fort Dodge, passed away on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at Paula J. Baber Hospice Home.


Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 6th at 11:00 AM at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church with Rev. Nicholas Thackery officiating. Burial will follow at North Lawn Cemetery with military rites conducted by the V.F.W. Post 1856 and the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard. A visitation will be held on Saturday from 9:00 to 11:00 AM at the church


LaVerne is survived by his children Robin (Michael) McDaniel of Tyler, TX, April (Larry) Schuster of Fort Dodge, grandchildren Kristen McDaniel, Brandon (Natalie) McDaniel, Kristine (Cody) Harris, and Devon (April) Schuster; and great-grandchildren Reese McDaniel, Heath Harris, Jade Harris, Clara Schuster and Evelyn Schuster, sisters Karen (Dennis) Kielsmeier and LeAnn Dass.


He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Meta (Klaffke) Dass, wife Patricia in 2014, brothers Marland Dass, Donald Dass and his sister Sherryl Hodges.


LaVerne Dale Dass was born on June 8, 1934, in Iowa Falls, IA - Ellis Township at the family home. On July 1, 1934, he was baptized and he was confirmed on March 21, 1948, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Buckeye, IA. He attended country schools and graduated from Radcliffe High School on May 16, 1951. LaVerne served in the U.S. Air Force from July 1, 1954, to June 30, 1956. He received his honorable discharge on June 30, 1962. LaVerne was united in marriage to Patricia Johan Breitenbach on June 18, 1960, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge. He worked at Tip Top Distributing Company in Fort Dodge from 1958 to 1973. LaVerne later worked at Carpet World for 27 years serving as a sales consultant. He went to part time help in 1999. LaVerne was a longtime member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church where he served as an elder, head usher, Endowment Fund, sang in the church choir and was active in the church Bible class. LaVerne was a past member and president of the Noon Lions Club. He also loved to play golf at the Lakeside Municipal Golf Course and enjoyed working with wood, especially oak.


Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church Endowment Fund or to Paula J. Baber Hospice Home.
