LaVonne M. Winninger, 97, of Fort Dodge passed away on Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at the Marian Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, November 10th at Holy Trinity Church with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Barnum. Visitation will be on Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Laufersweiler Funeral Home. LaVonne is survived by her nieces and nephews, Kathy Minor of Humboldt; Robert (Patty) Winninger; Susie Newsum; Gary (Jolene) Winninger, Mark Winninger all of Fort Dodge, Mary Ann Winninger of Webster City, Maureen Winninger-Birkey of Clare, John (Darlene) Winninger of Duncombe, Beth (Terry) Kuntz of Thornton, CO, Tom (Stephanie) Cain of Bellevue, NE, Dan (Paula) Cain of Osceola, numerous great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews. LaVonne was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Myrtle Winninger, brother Joe Winninger, sister Mary Cain, sister-in-law Katherine Winninger and brother-in-law Jim Cain. LaVonne M. Winninger was born on January 6, 1923 in LaPorte City, IA and as an infant moved with her family to Waterloo and later Fort Dodge. She started her education at Sacred Heart School and after graduating from Sacred Heart High School, she attended Fort Dodge Tobin Business College. In 1942, she began her employment with Fort Dodge National Bank. In 1951, LaVonne took a leave of absence and worked for the U.S. Senator Guy M. Gillette in Washington, D.C. After her leave of absence, she returned to the bank, which later merged with Northwest Bank and she worked there until her retirement in 1986. LaVonne was an active member of Sacred Heart Church. She was a Sacristan and Lay Minister of Communion. Another ministry that was special to her being a member of the Sacred Heart Adult Funeral Choir for many years. The members were so caring and sincere about their ministry. When the Renew Program started, she organized and managed the hospitality greeter program for 10 years. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Rosary Society, a 50 plus year member of Catholic Daughters of America and former member of the Professional Secretaries, Int. LaVonne enjoyed being with her friends and loved the family gatherings, especially with the nieces and nephews. They all kept in contact through the internet along with her cousins and friends who lived at a distance. She also enjoyed traveling, especially her last long trip to Rome. The family would like to thank the Marian Home for their wonderful care and concern that was given to LaVonne. Memorials may be left to New Hope Village in Carroll, St. Edmond Catholic Schools or Catholic Charities.
