Leo F, Byrne, 86, of Fort Dodge passed away Sunday, February 19, 2023, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, February 23rd at Holy Trinity Church with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will follow in Corpus Christi Cemetery with military rites conducted by the V.F.W. Post 1856 and the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard. A visitation will be held 1 hour prior at the church on Thursday. Laufersweiler Funeral Home is serving the family. Leo is survived by his wife of almost 60 years Lois Byrne of Fort Dodge and sons Matt (Dawn) Byrne of Manson and Dan (Meg) Byrne of Bettendorf, grandchildren Melissa Byrne of Ankeny, Adam (Lexie) Byrne of Bondurant, and Cate Byrne of Bettendorf. He was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Florence (Powers) Byrne and sisters Margaret Ann Byrne and Mary Kay Conlon. Leo Francis Byrne was born January 3, 1937, in Fort Dodge. He was raised and educated in Fort Dodge, graduating from Corpus Christi High School in 1955. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and was a member of the Strategic Air Command Bomber crew for two and a half years. He was honorably discharged in 1958. On May 25, 1963, he was united in marriage to Lois Pitts at Corpus Christi Church. The couple established their home in Fort Dodge. Leo worked for Hormel's for 17 years and Green Field Transport for 19 years, where he retired as Director of Drivers Services. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Dodger Lions, avid Iowa Hawkeye Fan, and was a founding member of PICA. Leo loved to hunt pheasants with his family and friends. Memorials may be left to family discretion.
