Leone "Lee" M. Derrig, 81, of Fort Dodge, slipped away on Wednesday, May 14th, 2014 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home to begin her journey to her heavenly home. Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 19th at 10:30 A.M. in the Chapel of the Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home with Pastor Allan Redenius, officiating. Burial will be in North Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Sunday at the funeral home. Survivors include her sons, Rick Derrig of Iowa City; Randy Derrig and his wife Julie of Carter Lake; daughters, Rhonda Weddell of Des Moines; Kim Conell of Tacoma, WA; Carla Trusty and her husband Keith of Ponca, NE; Sheri Derrig of Council Bluffs; Cyndee Carlson and her husband Matt of Horizon City, TX; 14 grandchildren; and 25 great grandchildren She was preceded in death by her parents, Franz and Edith (York) Franz; husband Richard Derrig in 2009; sister, Iva Eis; and her brother, Raymond Franz. Leone M. Franz was born on November 9, 1932 in Ottumwa. She moved with her family to Fort Dodge when she was 14 years old. Lee graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High School in 1950. She then attended Tobin Business College. On August 30, 1951 she was united in marriage to Richard Derrig and the couple made their home in Fort Dodge. Lee worked at Iowa Illinois Gas and Electric Company until the birth of their first son. She also worked for Mikos and Bleeker Furniture Store until 1954. Lee worked part time at the Laramar/Plamor Ballroom beginning in 1957. From 1972 to 1985 the couple owned and operated Twilight Ballroom, later known as the Laramar Ballroom. Throughout her ownership of the Twilight Ballroom Lee continued as an independent cake decorator. In 1985, she went to work as the cake decorator at Randall's until 1988 when she went to care for her husband Dick. After he recuperated, Lee and Dick ventured into wood crafting and participating in craft shows. Lee was a long time member of Riverside United Methodist Church. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
