Louise Geick

Pomeroy Louise Geick, 93, passed away Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at Trinity Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 15, 2020 at Our Savior United Methodist Church, Manson with Rev. Dawn Freese officiating. Burial will be at Union Cemetery, Pomeroy. Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday at Our Savior United Methodist Church, Manson. Palmer-Swank Funeral Home, Rockwell City is serving the family. She is survived by her children, Jack (Cody) Geick of Pomeroy; Peggy (Craig) Lang of Twin Lakes; granddaughters, Megan (Robin); Lindsey; Molly; Kelly (Josh); Ashley (Ben) and Stefanie (Corbin); six great-grandchildren; brothers, Bill (Jan); Gene (Nancy); Blair (Donna); Bruce (Diane); sisters-in-law, Donna Hammen and LaVonne Sorenson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale; parents; brothers, Ronald; Dean; Dorance "Sunny"; Lester "Bud"; Robert and Gerald "Butch"; sisters, Margaret and Vera. Louise Geick was born August 1, 1926 to George and Mildred (Johnson) Sorenson. Louise graduated from Jolley High School in 1943. After high school, she worked in the Jolley Lumber Yard until she was old enough to attend nursing school. She graduated nursing school in 1948. On August 26, 1948 she married Dale (Pete) Geick. They made their home on a farm south of Pomeroy. In 1992, they moved into Pomeroy. Dale passed in December of 1997. Louise was a member of Our Savior United Methodist Church. She was active member of Wesley United Methodist Women and enjoyed serving as an officer at the local and district levels. She served on the Calhoun County Cancer Board and the Pomeroy Library Board. She was a 65 year member of the SAK Club and charter member of the 3M Club. She had a love for nursing. She was designated as an American Red Cross Nurse in the 1950s. Louise worked for 15 years at Trinity Regional Medical Center and was instrumental in starting the first Intensive Care Unit at Trinity. She had many passions in her life including her family, friends, baking and reading. Louises last gift was donating to the Iowa Donor Network. Memorials may be left at the discretion of the family.
