She was preceded in death by her parents Clem and Matilda (Hessler) Stuhrenberg, sister Dorothy Husske, brothers Bernard, Alvin, Vincent, and infant sister Louisa. Lucille Mary Stuhrenberg was born October 20, 1937. She was raised in rural Duncombe and graduated from Duncombe High School in 1956. She then attended St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Sioux City for a year and then nursing school in Fort Dodge for two years, graduating in 1959. Lucy first worked for Mercy Hospital as a Registered Nurse in Fort Dodge. In 1963, she volunteered and worked as a nurse in Brazil with a Papal Volunteer Program (P.A.V.L.A.). She returned to Iowa in 1966 and continued her nursing career in Sioux City and throughout Fort Dodge. On December 27, 1969 Lucy was united in marriage to Thomas Petersen at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Lucy and Tom became foster parents to over 20 infants awaiting adoption through Catholic Social Services. They became parents through the blessing of this organization to their daughters, Mary Beth and Jennie. Lucy worked for Kersten Clinic, Dr. Inbody's Podiatry Office, and Friendship Haven before semi-retiring as a secretary for Sacred Heart School. She retired in 1999 from the Fort Dodge Catholic School system. Lucy was an avid volunteer for the church for many years. At Sacred Heart she was a member of the choir, a seamstress for baptismal gowns and banners, an environmentalist, a member of the Ladies Union and continued to volunteer with the new church, Holy Trinity. Lucy's pride and joy were her grand-kids and she loved spending time with them whenever possible. She also enjoyed reading, cooking, sewing, and baking. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
