Rockwell City Frances Marcella Hammen 92, passed away Wednesday, November 24, 2021 at her home following a lengthy illness. Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 27, 2021 at St. Francis Catholic Church, Rockwell City, with Father Lawrence McCarty officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial of casket will be at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, Nov. 26 at St. Francis Catholic Church, with a Parish Rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a Vigil for the deceased at 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family. Palmer & Swank Funeral Home, Rockwell City is serving the family. Marcella is survived by her children, Ron (Dianne) Hammen of Rockwell City, Rose (Paul) Kutz of Rockwell City, Randy (Kathy) Hammen of Rockwell City, Marty (Barb) Hammen of Jolley, Jeff (Donna) Hammen of Rockwell City, Joan (Bob) Kidney of Panora, and Annie (Gary) Errington of Star Lake, WI; daughter-in-law Kitty Hammen of Purdy, MO; 26 grandchildren; 68 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Keevan Hammen; infant daughter Teresa Louise Hammen; sons, Francis "Fran" Hammen and Duane Hammen; granddaughters, Tammie Kutz Segebart and Tracy Kidney; great-grandsons, Dylan Kidney and Cray Hammen; her parents, Fred and Bertha (Whitesitt) Gesy; sisters, Florence Nord, Maxine Wine, Alice Irene Stumpf, Agnes Eileen Bartels, and Bertha Swanson Carlson; and brothers, Lawrence, Emmitt, Virgil, Joe, and Leo Gesy. Frances Marcella Gesy Hammen was born December 3, 1928 at Fonda, Iowa. She graduated from Our Lady of Good Counsel High School in Fonda with the Class of 1946. On February 11, 1947 she was united in marriage to Keevan Hammen at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Fonda. The couple lived in Fonda. In 1956, they established their home on a farm south of Jolley. In 1987, they retired from farming and moved into Rockwell City. Keevan passed away in 2005. Marcella was a faithful member of St. Francis Catholic Church and a former member of St. Marys Catholic Church, Pomeroy, where she taught CCD classes for many years. She also served as a hospice volunteer for 10 years and was a member of the Neighborhood Idle Hour Club.
