Mardell D. Abrams, 85, of Omaha, NE, formerly of Callender, passed away on Sunday, January 17, 2016, at her daughter's home. Funeral services will be Saturday January 23rd at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home with Rev. Gary Snook, officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. A visitation will be on Friday 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mardell is survived by her children, Ronda Kern of Omaha, NE; Beverly (Rich) Varn of Omaha, NE; Paul Hefley of Gowrie; Karen (Jerry) Prokop of Omaha, NE; Chris (Mike) Baessler of Eagle Grove; Iva (Tom) Baessler of Omaha, NE; 18 grandchildren, and 26 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ivan and Marie (Messerly) Florea; grandson, James DeFoe Jr.; son-in-law, Roger Kern, and sisters, Marilyn Harris and Beverly Kocher. Mardell D. Florea was born March 16, 1930 in Fort Dodge. She was raised and educated in Fort Dodge, graduating from Fort Dodge Senior High in 1948. Mardell married John Hefley in 1948, and the couple established their home in Fort Dodge. They were later divorced. She was united in marriage to Harold Abrams in 1970. Mardell enjoyed knitting slippers, crafts, and especially enjoyed the time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
