Callender Marion R. Peterson 96, passed away Thursday, September 1, 2022 at Friendship Haven, Fort Dodge. Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, 2022 at Our Saviours Lutheran Church, Callender, with Pastor Greg Stano and Pastor Deb Stano officiating. Burial will be at Callender Cemetery, with Military Graveside Rites by American Legion Peterson Post #431 of Gowrie. Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7, at the Palmer Funeral Home, Gowrie. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family. Marion is survived by his son Mike (Lisa) Peterson of Callender; grandsons, Parker (Robin) Peterson of Santa Monica, CA, and Spencer Peterson of Callender; great-grandchildren, Audrey, Autumn, and Rhett. He was preceded in death by his wife Opal Maxine Peterson; his parents, Martin and Martha (Heggen) Peterson; and sister-in-law Joan Natte. Marion Richard Peterson was born December 7, 1925 near Callender, Iowa. He attended country school and graduated from Callender High School, with the Class of 1943. Marion served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. On November 2, 1951 he was united in marriage to Opal Maxine Flemmig at the First Baptist Church in Des Moines. Following his honorable discharge from the service, the couple made their home on a farm near Callender. Marion farmed in the area and served on many boards and positions including, Farm Bureau Director, PTA President, Our Saviours Lutheran Church as Deacon, secretary, and treasurer, Callender Retirement Homes Director, and Roland Township Clerk. He enjoyed annual fishing trips with family and traveling abroad with his wife. Opal passed away in 2014.
