Marjorie Blair

January 12, 1924 — November 30, 2021

Marjorie E. Blair, 97, formerly of Fort Dodge passed away Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at the Madrid Home after a lengthy battle with Alzheimers. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Monday, December 6, 2021 in the chapel of Laufersweiler Funeral Home with Rev. Jena Finch-Manchester officiating. Burial will follow in North Lawn Cemetery. A visitation will begin 1 hour prior to the start of the service. Marjorie is survived by her daughter, Jane Blair of Huxley; grandson, Adam of Huxley; granddaughter and great-granddaughter, Cassandra and Emma of Mason City; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Levi and Angeline (Valez) Griep; husband, Donald E. Blair in 2001; her 2 infant children; siblings, Herbert, Harold, Arthur, Stanley, Lloyd, Willis, Viola, Dorothy, Irene, Lois "Tommie", and Darrel. Marjorie Blair was born January 12, 1924 in Fort Dodge. She was a FDSH graduate. She worked as a clerk for the Fort Dodge Telephone Company as an operator and then a division accountant for over 19 years. On May 6, 1960 she was united in marriage to Donald Blair. The couple made their home in Fort Dodge. In 2001, Marjorie moved to Huxley after the passing of her husband. She was a member of Fjeldberg Lutheran Church. In 2012, she moved to the Madrid Home Communities. If Marjorie could be summed up in 1 word it would be altruistic. Her work ethic was the best, "bar none". Until her Alzheimer's made it impossible, she was a logophile, "a word nerd". She could finish a New York Times crossword puzzle in minutes and enjoyed writing poetry. She could strike up a conversation with anyone no matter their age and was always up to par on current events, reading every newspaper she could get her hands on. Marjorie thoroughly enjoyed and took great pride in her grandchildren and loved sharing her immense imagination with them. She was an immaculate housekeeper. Hug your mom extra tight or do an act of kindness for a stranger in memory of Marjorie. Memorials may be left to the Madrid Home. From the bottom of our hearts, we would like say "hats off" to Sadie at the Madrid Home, and thank you to Amy and Brian with Suncrest Hospice for their compassionate care of mom.
