Martin (Marty) Douglas Shirbroun, 73, passed away on June 19, 2022, at his home in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Marty is survived by his son Bill and his wife Darcie Shirbroun of Fort Dodge, Iowa; daughter Brenda Nichols of Phoenix, Arizona; sister Judy Knudsen of Coon Rapids, Iowa; grandchildren Taylor and her husband Brandon Archibald; Josie, Faith, Maddox, and Piper Shirbroun; and Tyler and Jake Nichols. He is also survived by his former wife and friend, Susan Shirbroun and his beloved dog Molly. He is preceded in death by his parents Henry and Clarice Shirbroun; brothers Merle and Darrell Shirbroun; sister-in-law Sherill Shirbroun; and brother-in-law Kenny Knudsen. Marty was born on July 21, 1948, in Carroll, Iowa. Marty graduated from Coon Rapids School in 1966. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1967 and served one year with the 3rd of the 8th, Fourth Infantry Division as a medic in Vietnam. Marty wrote of his time in Vietnam in a book entitled "Through The Eyes Of A Combat Medic." He was discharged in 1968 and returned home to the farm in Coon Rapids. He married Susan Rusnak in 1969 and they made their home in Moorland, Iowa. Marty worked at the Fort Dodge Labs until his retirement. A visitation will be 10:00 to 12:00 noon Saturday, July 2, 2022 at Dahn & Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids with burial to follow in Orange Township Cemetery in Coon Rapids. Military rites will be provided by the American Legion Post 357 and The Army National Guard. Laufersweiler Funeral Home, Fort Dodge is serving the family. Memorials may be left to family discretion.
