Mary “Marty” G. Minnick 82, passed away Thursday, February 8, 2024 at Trinity Regional Medical Center, Fort Dodge. Memorial Services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 12, 2024 at St. Francis Catholic Church, Rockwell City, with Fr. Lynn Bruch officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial of ashes will be at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Shieldsville, Minnesota at a later date. Visitation will be 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11, at Laufersweiler’s Palmer & Swank Funeral Home, Rockwell City with a Rosary at 4:30 p.m. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
Marty is survived by her daughters, Susan (David) Smith of Windsor Heights and Jeanne Minnick of Minneapolis; sons, Edward (Valerie) Minnick of Urbandale, and Michael Minnick of London, England; nine grandchildren, Madeline, Patrick, Gavin, Lola, Haven, Finn, Miles, Emily and Elliot; 1 great-granddaughter, Mia; sister, Susan Currie of Chicago; other relatives and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Patrick; her parents, Emmett and Genevieve (Maloy) Tourville and sister, Katherine Amundson.
Mary G. Tourville was born October 19, 1941 in Beloit, Wisconsin. Marty graduated from Elmhurst High School with the Class of 1959. She continued her education and graduated from Clarke College in Dubuque, Iowa. On August 10, 1963, she was united in marriage to Edward Patrick Minnick in Elmhurst, Illinois. In 1972, the couple established their home in Rockwell City. While raising her family, Marty was a substitute teacher, taught at the Women’s Correctional Facility in the GED program, and sold Avon for a number of years. She also worked at the Outreach Center. In 1982, Marty went to work as a Deputy at the Calhoun County Court House and then in 1986, became the Calhoun County Recorder until her retirement. Marty was an active member of St. Francis Catholic Church, Ladies Altar Society, past President of the State Recorders Association, past District President for the Calhoun County Genealogy Society and historical society and a member of IACRETO and the AAUW as well as the Red Hat Ladies. She was a Campfire leader and assisted with the caucuses for the Calhoun County Democrats. She volunteered her time on the Senior Citizen and Congregate Meal Board and the Rotary Club. Marty was a member of “Ladybugs”, a club for fellow widows where they would share and spend time together. Marty was a very giving person. She enjoyed sewing and knitting and even had a tree at the Festival of Trees with pairs of Mittens she had knitted for anyone who needed them. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
