Marvin Lee Winther

July 4, 1955 — June 20, 2021

Marvin Lee Winther took his final ride and was greeted at the Pearly Gates by Our Heavenly Father on Sunday, June 20, 2021. In true Marvin fashion, he was born on July 4, 1955, during the greatest fireworks show ever, to his loving parents, Jerry and Myrna Winther. He attended school in Hubbard, Iowa and graduated with honors. He enlisted with the United States Marine Corps immediately and traveled to California for training and then Japan, one of his favorite places. He was honorably discharged in 1974 and made his home back in Hubbard. He met the love of his life, Rhonda, in Hampton, Iowa in 1978 . On November 3, 1979 they were united in marriage at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. In 1983 they made Humboldt their home. There they raised their children David, Rochelle and Penny Lane. Marvin made a career of driving semis so he could travel with his wife and his beloved dogs. He retired in 2016. Becoming the best Papa to all of his grandchildren was the highlight of his retirement. He loved to spend his summers camping and fishing with his wife and dog and riding his motorcycles. He was a family man and loved coffee dates with his daughters, teaching them how to hunt, fish and play softball (he never said no to playing catch). He also loved history, sharing his unending knowledge in just about anything, animals big and small, traveling, and telling stories of all of his life adventures. Marvin's brutal honesty and brilliant mind made for some of the best, and most interesting, conversations. He was a very proud yet humble man and Marine and loved his country and God. Marvin is survived by his wife, Rhonda, his son, David Hanse, his daughters Rochelle (Dan) Moore and Penny Lane Winther, his mother, Myrna, his brother, Steven (Patty) Winther, his sisters Susan (Dennis) Burkhardt and Marlene (Bob) Johnson, his grandchildren Maddux, Dillon, Delaney, Everett, Ella and Liam, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Jerry Winther, infant grandson, Brandon Hanse, his maternal and paternal grandparents, Grandma Lilah Vought and his beloved dogs Edward, ChewToe, Toby and Lucy. Graveside Military Honors will be at the Harlan Cemetery on Thursday, June 24th 2021, at 11:00 am in Dumont, Iowa. A Viking send off for Marvin will be determined at a later date.
