Marvin R. "Sparrow" Cervene, 84, of Fort Dodge passed away Saturday, March 22, 2014 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home. A Celebration of Life will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 26th in the Chapel of Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by the V.F.W. Post 1856 and the U.S. Navy Honor Guard here at the funeral home following the services. A visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Sparrow is survived by his wife, Sharon "Ducky"; children, Doyle (Donna) Cervene, Kem Cervene, Jan Cervene, Melinda Cervene, Tam Cervene; step children, Kevin (Nancy) Blaha, Kim (Michael) Brainard, and Kristina Brokaw; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; his brothers, Bruce (Young) Cervene and Doug (Linda) Cervene; and his twin brother, Myron "Donnie" (Charlene) Cervene. He was preceded in death by his parents, Myron and Iona (Sumek) Cervene; first wife, Madonna; and grandsons, Jeremy and Kyle Cervene. Marvin Robert Cervene was born August 18, 1929 in Fort Dodge. He graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High School in 1947 and following his education he served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. In 1954, Marvin was united in marriage to Madonna Maier in Fort Dodge. She passed away in 1985. In June of 1989 he married Sharon Brokaw at Corpus Christi Church. Marvin was employed with National Gypsum for 38 years. After his retirement he was employed part-time with Kallin-Johnson Monument Co. and Diamond Vogel Paint. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
