Mary Ann (Petras) Fisher, 86, passed away at Humboldt County Memorial Hospital in Hospice Care, surrounded by her children on November 19, 2021 after a lengthy and courageous battle with shingles. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 27, 2021 at Laufersweiler Funeral Home. A visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Mary Ann was born on July 7, 1935 to Michael and Mary (Packo) Petras in Chicago, Illinois. She moved with her family to a farm near Callender when she was 4 years old. Mary Ann graduated from Sacred Heart School in 1953 and attended Tobin Business College. Mary Ann put herself through college by working the lunch counter at Kresge's. After college Mary Ann worked at Quaker Oats in Fort Dodge until 1963 when she became a mother. Mary Ann enjoyed roller skating and met her husband, J. Robert Fisher (Bob) at the skating rink; he felt sorry for her because she was scooting around the corners and he thought she was tiny and adorable. Mary Ann and Bob were married July 11, 1959 at Sacred Heart Church and they made their home east of Badger until November 1967 when they moved to the family farm south of Humboldt. When they had the opportunity to purchase the family farm, Mary Ann worked for Crest Pac in Humboldt for two years. She was a devoted farm wife and mother and was well known for her culinary, gardening and canning skills. Mary Ann's home cooked meals were served to many. Anyone working at the farm was served a delicious meal accompanied by side dishes and dessert. There were always cookies, bars, cakes or cinnamon rolls. No one left the farm hungry. Mary Ann loved her cats, especially her latest pet, Kitty. She also loved growing house plants. Sadly, Mary Ann lost her husband in February 1996, but she continued to live on the farm taking pride in the farming operation, her children, and enjoying her grandchildren. Mary Ann is survived by her children, Julie (Dave) Larsen, Rutland; Ed (Nicole) Fisher, Peosta; Steve (Christina) Fisher, Humboldt; Grandchildren: Kyrah Larsen (Dylan Berte), Carson Fisher, Olivia Fisher, Luanna Fisher, Jackie (Malcolm) Boyd and brother, Jerry (Ranae) Petras, Fruitland, Idaho. She was preceded in death by her brother, Phillip, her parents, and husband. Mary Ann will be deeply missed by her children and grandchildren. Mary Ann will be buried at Corpus Christi Cemetery in Fort Dodge. Mom Quotes: "Don't you like my cooking?" "Is that all you're going to eat?"
