Mary Ann Harrigan

March 8, 1927 — June 8, 2022

Mary Ann Harrigan, passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 8, 2022 at the age of 95. Mary Ann was born on March 8, 1927 in Weston, NE to Lewis and Mary (Shultz) Paseka. Mary Ann was one of six children and is preceded in death by both parents, her brothers James, Richard, Anton and sister Lillian, and her daughter Patricia. She is survived by sister, Margie Wittmerhouse of Colon, NE. Mary Ann was a child of the depression, growing up on a farm in eastern Nebraska. She was married to Slater Patrick (Pat) Harrigan on July 3, 1946. They moved to Fort Dodge in 1950 and divorced in 1964. Together they had five children, Kathleen (Susie) Harrigan of St. Louis, Mary K (Phil) Dahlberg of Jackson, WI, Colleen (Dale) Miller of Sweetwater, TX, Patricia (deceased) and PJ (Amy) of Scottsdale, AZ. In addition, her adopted family from the "Farm", includes Marilyn Poppen of Fort Dodge, Allan (Dyanne) Poppen of Palmer and Faye (Andy) Peterson of Palmer. While the Poppen children were not actually blood relatives, the two families were as close as you could be without being actually related. Mary Ann had many loves in her life but most important were her 15 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren. She loved to prepare hand embroidered quilts for each grandchild born. In addition, she loved to cook for others as well as garden and listen to polka music. Many will remember Mary Ann not just for the meals she made but for her wonderful Christmas treats! Mary Ann also loved to tell a story and could always be counted on to be the life of the party. Mary Ann spent most of her work years in restaurants as either owner, cook or server. She and Pat owned a couple of taverns (Harrigan's Tap and Harrigan's PastTime) and Mary Ann worked at the Ramada Inn, Trelors and the Silver Fox. Mary Ann finally retired after working a number of years at Quality Plus/Sanofi Animal Products. A visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Friday the 12 th of August and a Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, 13 th of August, both will be held at Laufersweiler Funeral Home. Although Mary Ann had a love of flowers, the family asks that in lieu of any flowers that a donation be made to either Boys Town, Disabled American Veterans or The American Heart Association.
