Mary Elaine Lawler

Mary "Elaine" Lawler, 77, of Fort Dodge passed away on Thursday August 27, 2020 at the Simpson Health Center, Friendship Haven. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM Saturday, September 5, 2020 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Burial of cremains will follow at Corpus Christi Cemetery. A visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 PM Friday at Laufersweiler Funeral Home. She is survived by her husband, Joe; children, Angela (Chad) Smeins of West Des Moines; Diane (Tim) Pohlmeier; James Lawler and John Lawler all of Colorado, Springs; seven grandchildren; sisters, Suzanne Heun of Fort Dodge and Nancy Welker of Clive. She is preceded in death by her parents, Sterling and Mary Ainsworth; brothers, Randall Ainsworth and Sterling E. Ainsworth. Mary Elaine Ainsworth was born March 10, 1943 in Fort Dodge. She graduated FDSH in 1961. She then attended the former Tobin Business College in Fort Dodge, graduating in 1963. She worked for four years for the Fort Dodge Credit Bureau where she met her husband, Joe Lawler. Elaine enjoyed all things family. She was a fantastic cook and homemaker who took great pride in preparing delicious meals to share with family and friends at birthdays, holidays, camp outs and reunions. She especially enjoyed being a wife, mother, and grandmother, and it showed in her beautiful smile. Spending weekends camping and vacationing in Colorado were favorite memories of younger years. She had an inspiring, positive attitude and always found the good in everyone and in any situation. She was devoted to her Catholic faith and was a lifelong parishioner of Corpus Christi Catholic Church and an avid supporter of St. Edmond Catholic School. She loved watching almost any sport and was an exceptionally enthusiastic cheerleader for her grandchildren and the Iowa State Cyclones. Following Joe's retirement, they developed a passion for traveling around the country in their fifth wheel R.V., visiting national parks, riding bikes, fishing and enjoying the great outdoors. Elaine will be remembered by all for her kind, genuine, warm personality, and loving heart. Memorials may be left to Friendship Haven or St. Edmond Catholic School.
