Mary Elizabeth Eckerman of Fort Dodge, Iowa passed away at the Marian Home on Saturday, January 22, 2022. A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Trinity Church in Fort Dodge. She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond, her son Denny Eckerman, her parents Leo and Theresa (Tessie) Hood, her sister Isabelle Vohs, her brother Michael Hood and her daughters-in-law Peggy Eckerman (Michael) and Dorothy Eckerman (Dennis). Mary is Survived by her loving children Bruce (Kathy) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Michael of Ankeny, Iowa, Christine Cannon (William) of Eagan, Minnesota, and Terence (Sharon) of West Des Moines, Iowa, and 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Mary Elizabeth Hood was born on November 9th, 1922, in Clare, Iowa to Leo and Theresa Hood. Mary moved to Fort Dodge at the age of 3 years old and lived in Fort Dodge all her life. Mary attended Corpus Christi High School and Fort Dodge High School graduating in 1941. Following her graduation, she worked at Fantles and the Credit Bureau. She met Ray Eckerman prior to his deployment to Italy and North Africa for World War II. On his return from the war approximately 4 years later, they married on February 19, 1946, at Corpus Christi Church and established their home in Fort Dodge. Mary was a member of Sacred Heart Monican Mothers, Sacred Heart Parish and Holy Trinity Church. Mary returned to work for the Foster Grandparents program for 13 years, around the mid-1970s till the mid-1980s. Mary enjoyed family and friends. She was an avid reader and enjoyed crocheting. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
