Mary Ellen Walsh, 80, of Moorland passed away on Friday, February 20, 2015 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home with her family by her side. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 23rd at 9:45 a.m. in the Chapel of Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home and 10:30 a.m. at St. Matthew's Church in Clare, with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Barnum. A visitation will be on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 2:00 p.m. and a Vigil at 6:00 p.m. Mary Ellen is survived by her husband, Kevin; children, Pat and his wife Kari of Waverly; Karen Free and husband Mike of Polk City; Bob and wife Andrea of Fort Dodge; Tom and wife Jody of Barnum; Dee Cech and husband Corey of Altoona; Anne Condon and husband Dan of Barnum; 21 grandchildren; brothers, Urban James "Jimmie" and his wife Marianne and Kenneth Lawler all of Clare. She was preceded in death by her parents, Urban and Catherine (Mahoney) Lawler. Mary Ellen Lawler was born on February 7, 1935 in Fort Dodge. She was raised and educated in Clare, graduating from St. Matthew's in 1953. She then received her teaching certificate from Mount St. Clare in Clinton, Iowa. Mary Ellen taught school first in LeMars and then for six years in Barnum. In 1962, she was united in marriage to Kevin Walsh at St. Matthew's Catholic Church in Clare. The couple established their home on a farm near Moorland. Mary Ellen was a member of Holy Trinity Parish. She truly loved to spend time with her family, especially enjoyed following her grandchildren in all their activities and events. In Lieu of flowers memorials may be left to the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home.
