Mary Lou Fiala

September 11, 1934 — February 9, 2023

Mary Lou Fiala, 88, of Moorland passed away Thursday, February 9th, 2023, at Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge, IA. A public visitation and celebration of life will be on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Laufersweiler Funeral Home. A private family service will be held. Burial will be in Elkhorn Township Cemetery south of Fort Dodge. Mary Lou Macken was born September 11th, 1934 in Fort Dodge, IA. She graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High in 1953. She attended St. Joseph Mercy School of Nursing. She worked at the Lutheran Hospital in Fort Dodge and later as a charge nurse in the mental health unit of the Webster County Home. She married Marvin Fiala on April 27, 1957 and they made their home on a farm near Otho, then years later on a farm near Moorland. After her retirement in 1994 she was a full time babysitter for two of her grandchildren, Branden & Hannah Fiala who lived nearby. Her hobbies included baking, cooking, golf, and embroidery. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Marvin Fiala, and siblings and their spouses Carlyle (Evelyn) Macken, Dorthy (Ben) Nelson, Charles (Shirley) Macken, Robert (Lois) Macken, Michael (Ann) Macken, grandson Alex Fiala and sister-in-law Earlene Reeves and her husband Larry of Fort Dodge. Mary is survived by her son Mark (Teresa) Fiala of Oskaloosa, daughter Anne (Bruce) Kofta of Waterloo, son Ted (Sandy) Fiala of Moorland and son Chris (Kristi) Fiala of Granger; grandchildren Matthew (Anne Marie) Kofta, Sarah Kofta, Michael (Shannon) Kofta, Adam Fiala, Branden (Becca) Fiala, Hannah Fiala, Kelsey (John) Blink and Kyle Fiala; great- grandchildren Mason, Olivia, Cohen, Walker, Weston, Kollyns, and a baby to be due in September ; and brother in-law Irv, sister in-law (DyAnn) Fiala of Callender. She was welcomed into Heaven with open arms by her loved ones that have gone before. Special thanks to Gabby Dorsey for taking such good care of Mary these past three years. She so enjoyed her children. Thanks to hospice for making Mary's journey so peaceful. Laufersweiler Funeral Home will be serving the family.
