Mary M. Stein, 84, formerly of the Gilmore City area, passed away on Sunday, January 25, 2015 at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona, surrounded by her 8 children. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 29, 2015 at St. Mary's Church in Humboldt with Rev. James Tigges officiating the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery near Pomeroy. A visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 4:00 p.m. and Vigil at 7:00 p.m. at Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home in Fort Dodge Mary is survived by her children, Stephen of Humboldt; David (DeLynn) of Barnum; Kevin (Marilyn) of Gilmore City; Mary Jean (Bill) Patterson of Madison, WI; Jane (Kyle) Smith of Pocahontas; Philip (Julie) of Algona; Carolyn (Doug) Miller of Algona; Michael (Deb) Stein of Iowa City; 29 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; sisters, Teresa Nasers of Sibley; Alberta Walling of Sun Prairie, WI; Rita (Duane) Stein of Ames; Helen Bormann of Algona; Alice Silverstrand of Omaha, NE; Eileen (Hugh) Manhart of Omaha, NE; and Sr. Annette George O.S.F of Dubuque. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Anna (McDermott) George; husband, Gene in 1997; and an infant son, Kenneth Thomas. Mary Margaret George was born on April 16, 1930 near Clare. As a young child she moved with her family to a farm near Barnum. She graduated from Barnum High School. Mary then attended Briar Cliff College where she earned her teaching certificate. Following her graduation she was a teacher in Gilmore City. On September 15, 1951 she was united in marriage to Gene Stein. The couple made their home on a farm near Gilmore City where she lived for over 63 years. Mary dedicated her life to serving God and her family. She found great joy in her grandchildren and touched the heart of all who met her. Mary was a past member of St. Patrick's on the Lizard and St. John's in Gilmore City. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
