Mary Ann McNamar

Mary Ann McNamar, 78, of Fort Dodge passed away Thursday, December 5, 2024 at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Monday, December 16th at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 449 E. Avenue, near Churdan, Iowa. Visitation will be on Sunday, December 15th from 2:00 to 5:00 pm at Laufersweiler Funeral Home, Fort Dodge. Private burial will be held at a later date at North Lawn Cemetery.

Survivors include her son Thomas McNamar of Washington, IA, grandchildren Tamera McNamar of Las Vegas, NV, Grayson McNamar of Cedar Rapids, IA, Ivy McNamar of Mason City, IA, and Madison McNamar of Badger, IA, brother John (Karen) Franey, sister-in-law Sue Franey, brother-in-law Herb Ellis, lifelong friend Dick Swanson of Dayton.

She was preceded in death by her parents Leo and Mary (Monahon) Franey, husband Don McNamar, son James McNamar, daughter-in-law Arnel McNamar, sister Janice Ellis, and brother Ronald Franey.

Mary Ann Franey was born on December 28, 1945 in Carroll, IA. She was raised on the family farm near Churdan and Lanyon. She graduated from Prairie High School in 1964. Mary then attended and graduated from Beauty School in Ames. For a time, she was a hairdresser and cosmetologist. On August 26, 1967 she was united in marriage to Don McNamar and the couple established their home in Fort Dodge, Webster City, and then Iowa Falls. Don passed in 1995 and Mary Ann sold the family business Iowa Falls Executive Aviation and she returned to Fort Dodge in 1996. Mary Ann worked at Wells Fargo Bank where she became the head teller and retired in 2010. She enjoyed traveling, growing her tomatoes, and cooking her special meals. Mary Ann loved her family especially the time spent with her grandchildren.
