Melissa Evans, 50, of rural Barnum, passed away Thursday, May 12, 2016 at her home. A Celebration of her Life will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 21, 2016 at Lighthouse Ministries with Rev. John Elkin officiating. A visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 21, 2016 at the church. Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home is serving the family. Melissa is survived by her husband, Brandon of Barnum; sons, Matt and Sean Evans, both of Fort Dodge; and sister, Denise Cox of Fort Dodge. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dennis and Myrna (Thorson) Cox; infant sister, Sonja Cox; and infant brother, Richard Cox. Melissa Lynne Cox was born May 6, 1966 in Fort Dodge. She attended schools here until her sophomore year of high school. Melissa and her family moved to San Francisco, and she graduated from Balboa High School. She returned to Fort Dodge in 1987. Melissa was united in marriage to Brandon Evans on June 11, 1989, and the couple established their home in Fort Dodge. In 2009, the couple moved to rural Barnum. Melissa operated day care through her home for nearly 10 years. She had a passion for art, painting, creating stained glass, and enjoyed camping trips. Above all, Melissa loved and treasured her family most. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
