Merle J. Kearney

Merle J. Kearney, 82, of Fort Dodge, passed away on Friday, December 9, 2022, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 17th at Holy Trinity Church with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will follow at Corpus Christi Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by the V.F.W. Post 1856 and the U.S. Army Honor Guard. Visitation will be on Saturday from 9:30 to 11:00 AM at the church. Laufersweiler Funeral Home is serving the family. Survivors include his brothers Mervin Kearney and his wife Diane of Fort Dodge, and Robert Kearney and his wife Linda of Marion, IA, sister-in-law Cheryl Kearney of Coalville, 23 nieces and nephews, numerous other cousins and loved ones. He was preceded in death by his parents James and Rose (Brennan) Kearney, sisters Rita Mersch, Mary Schneider, and Joanne Schall, infant brother James and brother Eugene Kearney. Merle J. Kearney was born on June 3, 1940, in Fort Dodge, IA. He was raised on a farm Northwest of Fort Dodge and attended country schools. Merle later graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High School in 1959 and attended Jr. College. He then went to work at the Fort Dodge Schools System. Merle served in the U.S. Army from June of 1961 to June of 1964. He returned to Fort Dodge and went back to work for the Fort Dodge Community School District where he was employed for 58 years as a bus driver. Merle was semi-retired in 2003, hecontinued to drive bus. He was a member of Holy Trinity Parish, Knights of Columbus and the American Legion. Memorials may be left to Holy Trinity Parish.
