Merlin Dencklau

Merlin J. Dencklau, 82, of Vincent passed away Friday, June 14, 2024 at the Rotary Ann Senior Living Center.


Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 22, 2024 at Laufersweiler Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Colfax Township Cemetery. A visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.


Merlin is survived by his wife Evelyn, children John Dencklau of Vincent, Jody (Rick) Rossow of Vincent, and Tony (Robin) Dencklau of Fort Dodge, grandchildren Eric (Heidi) Rossow and their children Greta and Hugo, Lindsey Rossow (Jordon Frakes), Laura (Corey) Rutherford and their children Adley and Boone, and Ryan Rossow. He is also survived by his siblings Delbert Dencklau of Fort Dodge, Earl Dencklau of Duncombe, LaVerna Wilson of Duncombe, sisters-in-law Shirley Dencklau of Texas, Darlene Dencklau of Fort Dodge, Charlotte Blankenhagen of Fort Dodge, and many nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his parents Anton and Elfrieda (Koester) Dencklau, brothers Harold, Leroy, Allen, Delmar, Richard, Marlin, Larry, Dale, and Donnie, sisters Lorraine Larson, Joan Adson, Jane Konvalinka, Betty Anderson, and infant sister Elaine Dencklau.


Merlin was born June 7, 1942, at Mercy Hospital in Fort Dodge. He was raised in Vincent and attended Colfax #3 country school. On June 20, 1964, he was united in marriage to Evelyn Rohrer and the couple made their home in Vincent. Merlie was a farmer but also worked at Fort Dodge Farmer’s Grain & Coal and New Cooperative. For many years, he owned and operated Merlin’s Tap in Vincent. He was a familiar face, always ready with a smile and a story, and his laughter filled the room. Merlin loved spending time with family and friends. Camping was his favorite past time. He was member of the Fort Dodge Moose Lodge, Sertoma Sundowners of Fort Dodge, and the Vincent Lions Club.


Memorials may be left the discretion of the family.
