Michael David Fawcett

September 4, 1943 — October 5, 2014

Michael D. Fawcett, 71, of Fort Dodge, passed away Sunday, October 5, 2014 at his home. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 9, 2014 in the Chapel of the Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home and 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating the Mass of Christian Burial. Military Rites presented by the V.F.W. Post 1856 will follow the service. Burial will be held at a later date in the North Lawn Cemetery. A visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with a Vigil service beginning at 7:00 p.m. Survivors include his wife, Jane; children, Michelle Vought (Jeff Leonardi) of Somers; David M. Fawcett of Thor; Beth Wendell (Chad Habben) of Palmer; grandchildren, Ryan, Jake, Ashley, Miranda, Michael, Nicole, Brody, Donavon; great-grandchildren, Addison; Zuri; brothers, Keith Fawcett of Winterhaven, FL; Ed (Betty) Fawcett of Fort Dodge; Jerry (Linda) Fawcett of New Sharon; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Merle and Jeanette (Butrick) Fawcett; brothers, Merlin, Leland, Paul, Ron; sisters, Pat Vinson; Gloria Johnson; and son-in-law, Danny Wendell II. Michael David Fawcett was born September 4, 1943 in Fort Dodge. He graduated from Dayton High School. Following his education he began work for Johnson Clay works, eventually becoming loading superintendent. Mike then served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. After his honorable discharge he returned to Fort Dodge and became employed for the City of Fort Dodge Water Department. He was united in marriage to Jane Vanderhoff on July 22, 1967 at Holy Rosary Church. In 1974, he established Fawcett Painting which he owned and operated until retirement. Mike was a member of the Moose Lodge. He will be missed by his special companion, Libby.
