Michael Don Cassidy

Michael D. Cassidy, 72, of Fort Dodge, passed away on Saturday, December 27, 2014. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 2nd at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church with Rev. Dan Rogers, officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Lehigh. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday January 1st at Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home. Survivors include his wife Jayne of Fort Dodge; daughters, Carrie Cassidy of Fort Dodge; Meghann Cassidy of Council Bluffs; Alyssa (Joe) Tornabane of Fort Dodge; granddaughter, Ariana Schultz; 2 step grandsons, Tristan Weir and Collin Tornabane; sisters, Beverly Cassidy of Fremont, MI; Georgeanne (Alan) Cassidy-Wescott of Central City; nephew, Kyle Cassidy-Wescott; and his furry friend "Charly". He was preceded in death by his mother, Margie Chaze; father and step-mother, Donald and Barbara Cassidy; and his dogs, Skipper, Bob, Sadie, Clyde, and Bailey. Michael Don Cassidy was born on November 14, 1942 in Kansas City, MO. As a child he lived in Huttig, AR and later moved to Monticello, IA where he graduated from Monticello High School. Mike then attended Parsons College and the University of Dubuque. From 1964 to 1971 Mike served with the U.S. Army Reserves until being honorably discharged. In 1966, he started his career in food service at Ashland College in Wisconsin. On December 17, 1966 he was united in marriage to Doris Ann Smith of Galena, IL. The couple moved to LeMars in 1967, where Mike worked at Westmar College. He later transferred to Dordt College, continuing in food service, establishing Carrie Foods Ltd. in 1975. Mike was also a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary on the Missouri River. In 1989, he moved to Fort Dodge where he opened the Pickup Palace then became an independent insurance agent for MCM Ins., Anchor, and later Kingsgate Ins. In 1997, Mike began his employment with Midas D.A.R.T Bus as a dispatcher, bus driver, and supervisor/trainer. On May 17, 1997 he was united in marriage to Jayne Chardoulias and the couple made their home in Fort Dodge. Mike enjoyed camping and boating on the Mississippi River, country music, driving bus, and being a driver/chaperon for the Special Olympics Events. He attended Trinity United Methodist Church where he served with the Stephen Ministries and led Bible studies. Mike was a longtime member of Fort Dodge Noon Lions Club, serving as President from 1997 to 1998. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
