Rockwell City Morley J. Alpers 84, passed away Saturday, July 21, 2018 at the Accura Healthcare of Pomeroy. Memorial Services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 30, 2018 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, East of Rockwell City, with Pastor Chadric Dietrich officiating. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. Monday at the Church until service time. Burial will be at Rosehill Cemetery, Rockwell City, with Military Rites conducted by the Rockwell City Veterans Organization. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Unity Point Hospice. Palmer & Swank Funeral Home, Rockwell City is serving the family. Morley is survived by his daughters, Kaye (Gene) Becker of Pomeroy, and Debra (Judd) Carder of Sunnyvale, CA; sons, Timothy (Pamela) Alpers of Rochester, MN, and Thomas Alpers of Brooklyn, NY; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters, Iris Kuerbitz of Banford, CT, and Mary Borchelt of Hudson, OH; brother Robert (Shirley) Alpers of New Providence, IA; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Jane; great-grandson Christopher in infancy; his parents, Walter and Erna (Gerdes) Alpers; and brothers, Ronald and Richard Alpers. Morley John Henry Alpers was born January 21, 1934 in Storm Lake, Iowa. He was raised in Knoke and graduated from Jolley High School, with the Class of 1952. Morley served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1956. On September 9, 1956 he was united in marriage to Mary Jane Ashbrook at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Knoke. The couple made their home on a farm near Knoke, where they farmed until their retirement in 1994. The couple moved into Rockwell City. Mary passed away in 2017. Morley was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Rockwell City Lions Club, Calhoun County Cattlemens Association, and AmVets.
