Farnhamville - Myrna Joyce Mobley Van Meter, 86, passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at Holzer Medical Center in Gallipolis, Ohio. Funeral Services will be 1:00 PM Wednesday May 3, 2023, at Palmer Funeral Home, Gowrie with Pastor Susan Rohden officiating. Visitation will be 11:00 AM until service time, Wednesday May 3, 2023, at Palmer Funeral Home, Gowrie. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post #510 of Farnhamville immediately after the service. A graveside service will follow at West Cemetery in Panora, Iowa. Myrna is survived by her children, Vance Edward (Christi) Van Meter and Kathy Sue Van Meter; grandchildren, Amanda (Christopher) Burch and John Jaime Aguirre; great grandson, Ari Christopher Burch; brothers, Jerry (Carol) Mobley and Ron (Kathie) Mobley; sister, Myra (Dave) Hanson. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Myrna is preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Helen Mobley, brother, Harold Mobley, sister, Margo Jean Mobley, nephew, Troy Mobley and nephew, John Hudgins. Myrna was born August 18, 1936, at home in Panora, Iowa to the late Ben and Helen Mobley. She graduated from Callender High School in 1954 and enlisted in the United States Navy in August later that year. She was stationed at NTC, Great Lakes, Illinois. After years away from Iowa, Myrna moved to Farnhamville Iowa in 1972 where she resided until 2006. She worked at the Farnhamville Implement until 1977 and then retired from the Celotex Corp. in Fort Dodge Iowa in 1999 after 22 years. Myrna was the City Clerk of Farnhamville, which she loved, from 1977-2006 retiring fully after 29 years and moved to Ohio to reside with her daughter Kathy until the time of her passing. Myrnas military service was very important to her. She was a member of the American Legion both in Iowa and Ohio as well as the Legion Auxiliary, Red Hats, Waves National and Swinging Seniors Dance Group in Ohio. She loved and enjoyed visiting family, dancing, bowling, playing bingo, crossword puzzles, reading and traveling but her favorite activity was shopping for purses, hats and shoes. She always remembered everyones birthday with a card and a sticker on the envelope. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
