Nathaniel Dale Luthro

Nathaniel D. Luthro, 78, of Moorland, passed away on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at Trinity Regional Medical Center. Funeral service will be held on Monday March 4th at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel of the Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Davis, Pastor of Zion Lutheran Church in Gowrie, officiating. Burial will be in Fulton Lutheran Church Cemetery in Roelyn, with Military Rites conducted by the V.F.W. Post 1856 and the U.S. Army Honor Guard. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Survivors include his son, Chadwick Luthro of Bloomington, IL; daughter, Shelly Porter and her husband Jim of Fort Dodge; grandchildren, Nicole Marie Thompson, Megan Rose Thompson, Tyler Joseph Thompson, Ashley Jan Witte and her husband Jacob; great grand daughter, Jaylon Jan; companion and friend, Beverly Bashore of Moorland; brother, David Luthro of Moorland; and a sister, Marlys Frankel of Fort Dodge. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Sophia (Froisland) Luthro; wife, Janet L. Luthro in 2009; sons, Nathaniel Luthro Jr., Scott Christopher Luthro, and his daughter, Christina Marie Thompson. Nathaniel Dale Luthro was born on March 18, 1934 in Humboldt. As a young child the family moved to Moorland where he attended schools. Following his education he enlisted with the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1957. He then reenlisted with the U.S. Air Force serving from 1957 to 1960. On May 27, 1962, Nate was united in marriage to Janet L. Thompson. They made their home on a farm in Moorland. For several years he ran a filling station in Fort Dodge before farming full time. Nate was a farmer his entire life. He was very proud of and loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Nate was past president of the D.A.V. Disabled American Veterans and was longtime member of C.M.A. Christian Motorcycle Association. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
