Rockwell City Nicola A. Smith 70, passed away Saturday, August 24, 2019 following a lengthy illness at Stewart Memorial Community Hospital, Lake City. Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 29, 2019 at St. Francis Catholic Church, Rockwell City, with Fr. Lynn Bruch and Fr. Clair Boes concelebrating the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be at Rosehill Cemetery, Rockwell City. Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28, at the Palmer & Swank Funeral Home, Rockwell City, with a Parish Rosary at 4:00 p.m. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family. Niki is survived by her husband Terry; children, Chad (Tamara) Smith of Waukee, Chris Smith of Rockwell City, and Jennifer (Kerry) Scheidegger of Jolley; 10 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; sisters, Renee Minnehan of Carroll, Jacque (Tony) Happe of Churdan, Joleen Matthews of Minot, ND, and Mary Pat Burke of Jefferson; brother Michael (Jean) Burke of Alpharetta, GA; and other relatives and a host of friends. Preceded in death by her parents, John "Jack" and Bernice (Thornton) Burke; and brother-in-law Clint Minnehan. Nicola Ann Burke Smith was born January 28, 1949 at Lake City. She graduated from Lohrville High School. On December 10, 1970 she was united in marriage to Terry Smith at St. Josephs Church in Lohrville. The couple lived in Churdan before establishing their home in Rockwell City. Niki worked various jobs in her lifetime including sales, baking, babysitting, and was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church.
