Orel C Stith

Orel C. Stith, 93, of Fort Dodge, passed away on Thursday, June 13, 2013, at Friendship Haven Health Center. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 17, 2013 at 10:30 AM at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge, with Rev. David Grindberg officiating. Burial will be in St. Olaf Cemetery in Bode with full military rites presented by the American Legion Post 524. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church on Monday. Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home is serving the family. Orel is survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Orel and Blanche (Potter) Stith; wife, Lorna in July of 2012, three brothers and two sisters. Orel C. Stith was born July 14, 1919 in Lemar, MO. He moved with his family to Hancock County in 1920. Orel grew up working on farms in that area, as well as doing some construction work. In 1941, he enlisted in the U.S. Army serving during WWII. Upon his honorable discharge, Orel returned home and was united in marriage to Lorna Jenson in Bode. Orel then went to work in Elmore, MN, at a nursery until 1954; when the couple moved to Fort Dodge. They owned and operated Stith's Nursery, which he ran for nearly 40 years retiring in 1995. Orel was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church and the Iowa Nurseryman's Association for over 40 years. Memorials may be left to Friendship Haven.
