Orville "Bud" Cole, 100, of Fort Dodge, passed away Thursday, April 7, 2016 at Simpson Healthcare Center, Friendship Haven. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 11, 2016 in the Chapel of Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating. Burial will be at North Lawn Cemetery. A visitation will be 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Monday prior to the service. Orville is survived by his sons, John (Nancy) Cole of Plainwell, MI; Ronald (Patricia) Cole of Central Point, OR; daughter, Gail (Harlan "Bud") Berg of San Diego, CA; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Emma (Doshack) Cole; wife, Josephine; second wife, Frances; infant son, Donald; sisters, Viola Littsen; Loretta Hotek; and Charolette Dinsdale. Orville "Bud" Thomas Cole, son of Charles and Emma Cole, was born October 9, 1915 in Moorland. After his family moved to Fort Dodge, he attended Corpus Christi School. His family then moved to Fairmont, MN after his freshman year of high school for two years. After returning to Iowa, Bud attended Otho High School and graduated in 1933. Orville was united in marriage to Josephine Hart in 1937. After living and working in Fort Dodge for four years, the couple moved to Los Angeles, CA where Bud was employed within the Tool and Die Industry. He continued his work at Rigid Manufacturing Company as Superintendent. The couple moved north to Santa Maria, CA, and he was then employed by Bell Labs at Vandenberg Missile Base undertaking research and development on guided missiles. After the research and development was completed, Bell Labs turned the system over to Western Elect and continued to guide missiles and satellite launchers. Bud was there for 22 years. Josephine passed away in February of 1993. Orville returned to Otho to attend his high school class reunion, and he was reunited with a dear friend and fellow classmate, Frances Anderson Fawkes. Bud and Frances got married in October of 1993. The couple moved to California until returning to Fort Dodge in 2000 and made their home at the Heritage Apartments at Friendship Haven. Bud was a member of Corpus Christi Church. Memorials may be left to the Salvation Army, Fort Dodge.
